Its been a lot of work but the body is back where it belongs. New rocker channels worked out very well. Now its is time to put everything else back together. Still alot of work left but should have the car back on the road by next weekend. |bouncy|

Looks great!
How hard were they to weld in?
were they bonded to the fiberglass at all or were they just welded to the bird cage?

The old rockers were just spot welded to the bird cage but had some aluminim revets hold the fiberglass door sills that had to be removed. Once I ground out the left over steel that was still welded to the inside of the post, The new rocker inserts fit back up in about 4 inches. I blocked them up in place with 2x2's and used a mig welder to reattach them to the inside of the posts. Thge post had only rusted at the bottom where they were welded to the channels. That saved me from having to cut any fiberglass out.

I should be back on the road by Friday. Just need to put the interior back together and bleed the brakes. By the way, you can find my page on the body removal at corvettefaq.com

Brian, What kind of spring do you have on your 73? I am now in the process of replacing mine. I kept with the leaf type. The new one is a 1/4 thicker and I had to get longer bolts for the center support, got them at Zip Products.

I( have the fiberglass spring. It was on there when I bought the car so I don't know how it stacks up against the stock one.

Vette(s): 1971 Convertible. Currently in midst of a frame off restoration / LS1 - six speed conversion.
Brian -

Where did you get the rocker inserts and about how much. I am almost done with my chassis and ready to start on the body. I swapped a 2000 LS1 / six speed into my '71. I have BIG rust problems in this area.

THanks,
Ken
