Hey Everybody,

I'm getting things together to start replacing the body mount bushings on my 1977.  I want to get new bolts before I start and I was wondering if anybody had any info on them?  I haven't taken any out yet to see what size they are and have been searching the net with no luck.  Anybody know what diameter, length, and thread the body mount bolts are?

Thanks!

Thanks, but I'm not going to get them through a vendor.  None of the vendors list the actual size of the bolts, probably because they don't want you getting other bolts like I plan to do!

Probably best to buy them in a kit.  They are not listed in my GM Chassis and Parts Catalogue.

I'm looking to replace them with SS ARP bolts... that's why I'm not really interested in getting them from a vendor in a kit.  I figure if I'm going to spend $20-$30 (or $40 in the case for the vendor in the link above) for 8 bolts from a vendor.... then I'm willing to spend more for SS!  Thanks for looking them up in your parts catalog though!

Dale,
Can you get one out and measure it?
Are you going to use a standard SS hex bolt and SS washer?

Looks like that's what I'll be doing.  I was hoping somebody may have had some lying around that was waiting to do it or had recently changed them.  Wanted to get all the parts before I actually dove into it!  I'm going to start spraying them with PB blaster this week, then maybe this weekend I will attempt to take one out.  I don't think mine should be that bad.  Luckily my vette has been garaged most of its life.

I was planning to use ARP SS hex bolts (assuming they make the size I need) and grade 8 washers.  ARP stainless bolts are classified as grade-8 and are actually rated as stronger.  I just hear about how much these bolts rust up, so I figure if a vendor is going to charge around $5 for a bolt.. then I might as well get better bolts so I don't have to worry about the rust issue.  So if I decide to take the body off in about 25 years or so I won't be that much of an issue.. haha.

Just for future information....  finally took one of the bolts out.

Bolts are 7/16 - 14, 3.5" UHL.

Unfortunately, each of my #4 cage nuts just spin!  I'm going to have to get in there and see if the reinforcements are ok.  I ended up taking a bolt of the #2 mount, which came loose very easily without any PB blaster.  Hoping I'm just as lucky with the remaining #1, #2, and #3 mounts and only have issues with each #4.  Ordered some replacement SS bolts and nylon lock nuts.  Depending on the condition of the #4 reinforcements I may just use a nut from the inside.

Good luck with the others! All of my bolts were in pretty bad shape and didn't want to come out wihtout a fight so I don't think you can go wrong drowning them in PB blaster before wrenching on them. I'm fairly sure I wrecked a cage nut trying to muscle one out. I kept the bad ones and they are pretty scary, on one about half of the bolt had dissolved, looked like something was gnawing on itShocked. Good Luck!
