MY FRIEND WITH AN IDENTICAL '71 COUPE IS WORKING ON A FULL BODY-OFF RESTORATION. WE'D LIKE TO KNOW IF IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE REAR #4 BODY MOUNT BRACKET (THAT'S RIVETED TO THE BODY) WITH THE BODY ON THE FRAME. HOW? HE HAS BOTH MOUNTS OFF AND THE BRACKETS FELL OFF, BUT WE CAN'T JACK THE BODY OFF THE FRAME ENOUGH TO SLIDE THE BRACKET ON. ANY IDEAS ??

What did you guys end up doing? I have a set of body mounts sitting in my garage, but I'm hearing that it's a very involved process for swapping them out. Something about loosening all of them and then raising the body off the frame an inch or two?
Thanks

I just got off the phone with a corvette tech and he said to cheat! The only way to do it right is painfull, it involves loosening the other body mounts. He said that its more important to have the brace in place to avoid pounding the fiberglass. So they cut the rear tab off, the bracket slides in place fastened on three sides and the middle. I,ve been looking at it and it looks like it will work. I just get hung up on doing it the right way. Every time I take the eazy way out it comes back to haunt me. Pozz33

I did what the tech guy said to do and it worked well. You may find that the fiberglass inside the cage is busted and there isn't anything to hold the nut any more. I made a metal plate to fit inside from the top. After the bolt is tightened down, the plate sandwiches the fiberglass between the cage and plate for a secure attachment. I also sealed the cage so water wouldn't be traped causing rust in the future. Three sides is more than enough to hold the mount and it is more important to have them there then how you get it there. The mount is the only thing that holds the rear in place. I have a copy of an atricle on how to change all the mounts if any one would like it just send me an E-mail

If you have that article I would love to see it. I am doing a full body off retoration on my 70 right now. Frame and power train are 100% done ... doing the body work right now. The Body is on a body dolly and the rear mounts #4 bolts are cut off and the nuts spin inside. So ... i think this would be the best time to change the rear housings and nuts. I would like tor ead to see how this is done. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Any advice would help.
Thanks
