Just out of curiosity, what is the difficulty level of replacing the body mount bushings on a ‘76? I’m not doing a full body-off restore, but I would like to replace them if it is not overly involved. I hear the new replacement urethane bushings are much better than the original. Also, I’m trying to eliminate that “old car” shake that occurs when on bumpy roads. I’ve already replaced all 4 shocks and installed a composite spring, which has helped immensely with the overall ride. I thought maybe the body mounts would help eliminate that feeling of the whole car rattling and provided that extra solid ride.
Any thoughts on this issue? Should I replace anything else first?

You might have better results by replacing the suspension bushings and the like. These will tighten up the car nicely.
Urethane body bushings will probably make the ride too harsh as they have very little give. Replacement is a good idea if the existing ones are rotted or missing.

check my web site to see what I had to do when I decided to replace my body mounts. If your rocker channels are ok then you won't have to go to that extent. The hardest part will be getting the bolts to come out without messing up the nuts. If they come out then you can do it by jacking the body up one side at a time just enough to slide the new mounts in place. One of the mag did an article a while back telling how they did it on a 77. It didn't go into great detail about what would have to be removed. Plan on unbolting the front and rear ends from the frame in order to lift the body. There is a list on my web page to see what else might have to come apart. It is not a hjob for the week at heart.

Thanks for the advice. It looks like I'm going to pass on this job. I have more important things to fix first, like getting the t-tops not to leak.
If you can solve that then let us all know what you did.
That is a GM trademark
