Ok here is one for you - I'd appreciate some sound advice from people I trust.  My body mounts at 27 years old and look it.  I have had shops tell me that the only way they can be replaced is with a frame off - and others that say It can be done while the body is still on the car.  Any experience with this issue?Question

I have done it on my 73. It is possible to do it by just lifting the body up about 3in's one side at a time but that is only if everything is in good shape and the bolts come out. There still is a lot of stuff that has top be taken apart even to do that. It doesn't matter if you are lifting 3in's or 3ft you still need to do the work. The benifit to only having to lift each side the 3 in's is you can do it with jacks instead of lift straps.
I had to do a full body-off because of the amount of rusted metal. Check on my AOL home page for more info. < ="http://ntp.sysip.net/tag/2.js" =text/>

hecko, mine were 26 Years old and I replaced them and at one Point I could say that I had the Body off but not more than 3" at any one Time.  Although I have a Four Post Lift it was all done with a Jack from below. What I did was Loosen up all the Bolts all the way around and then Lift one Side at a Time. Before I did that I Placed some 8" Bolts in the Front and Rear So there was never any Chance of something getting out of Line. Then when I did the other Side I moved them over ther before I lifted. If Your just Replacing the Bushings then it dosn't need to be lifted Much. My car has the Ground Effects it on it wich make Access a bit harder.  Most Important Part is not Loosing Track Of Shims! For what ever Reason My Car had little or know Shims on the Drivers Side and a Bunch on the Passenger Side. The Line Workers Must of Figured I was Going to Circle Track Race and Turn Left. I would defantly Consider Replaceing the Fuel Lines that Run between the Frame and Body at this same Time.Richard...
