I have removed the gas tank door and chrome trim ring from the rear deck on my 77.preping for a body removal.Now I see and feel the rubber pc.right below the deck.,around the gas cap and filler.Is there anything I don't see that will interfere with body removal?

The rubber boot attaches to the tank and not the body. You didn't need to take any of the stuff off around it. Redwingvette2007-05-04 15:30:54

Thanks Brian, I removed the door because body is getting media blasted real soon.I didn't know if the bubber "bladder" was attached to underside of rear deck either.Thanks to you I now know.BTW, what's the estimated HP on your motor? Best Regards,Mike

Not sure but I would guess in the 275hp range. Desk top dyno put it at 300 but that probably high.

I need to take the body off my 70 convertible in order to replace the front half of the frame.  Is removing the body a reasonable job for an amateur?  I have the garage space to do the job and found on the internet the specs for building a storage rack for the body while it is off the frame.  How many hours are involved in getting the body off the car?

Benelli 22, It is not as hard as we make it sound. It will take time and is better if you have help but I had never done it before and I did it by myself. My brother did come over and help me put the body back on the frame when it was time.

Thanks for the pictures and the step by step list of items to disconnect.  I printed out the list for future reference.  I don't plan on getting into this until the middle of the summer, but I'm collecting info for now.
 
I see you have a T-top.  My Vette is a convertible.  I'm told that I need to support the rear end of the car when lifting because all the weight is torqued along the bottom of the doors.  Do you know anything about this?
 
I notice the cart that you put the body on while working on the frame.  Did you have plan ahead of time, or just build the cart to fit the job?
 
I couldn't tell from the pictures...did you use two chain hoists to lift the body?
 
Also I'm thinking about swapping out the motor when I do this because my car is a 1970 but has a 1977 engine.  I'll swap out the motor is I can find one at a price that I can afford.

Dave, I just built the bucks out of some 2x4's to sit under the floor pans after I had the body off. There are two saw horses, one in the front and one in the back as well. I new I would not be able to use the body dolley that others have used because I needed to remove the rocker channels. I used the body lift straps from one of the venders. There was no mention of needing anything different from a coupe to a convertible. I used a lift strap on the nose because of the wieght of the bumper beam.
