I do not yet have a vette but am considering converting a t-top to a convertible. I have read some of the "Rayglass" books. I have done glass work on a friends vette. Anyone tackled such a project? Pictures? Guides? Ideas? thanks...bob acre

Why not just hold out until you find a convertible? That's what I did, and I sure am thankful for that. You'll maintain the value of your car, save yourself $$$ and headache, and best of all, the money you would have spent converting the car, you can spend on it doing something else. Just a thought, finding C3 convertibles isn't that difficult nowadays, unless you want a newer model that didn't come like that...

If you're looking for a post '75 model to make into a convertible, from what I've read you've got a pretty big project on your hands. And the 'glass is the least of your worries. Drop-tops have some additional re-enforcing that would need to be correctly added to keep the car together. I think it would be easier to find a '74 or '75 convertible and replace panels on it to make it into the model year you want.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

I believe that I read an article about why chevy made the t-top rather than a Targa top. I think the targa top doesn't have a cross bar. If I remember correctly, the body wasn't stiff enough, so they had to put in the front to rear crossbar. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I think that is the reason. If it was, removing the t-top bar will make it lose a lot of rigidity. Maybe someone else has more imput
