ok wierd thing hopfully some of you guys can help me with this..
I'm changing out my body mounts to poly and I get one side done by leaving the bolt in but loosened on the other... I got that side done proceded to move to the other side and do the same thing.
so I start to finish unbolting all the mounts quite the amount of body spacers on this side, and
I finely get to the far rear (drivers side), and un bolt it the rest of the way and pop it it is like it had been used to hold the hole body stright. the bolt cam off and now the body dits about 1/2 higher than the body mount, I'm I supposed to just use the bolt to clamp it back down?? or is there an issue? really wierd... and the other side I did first isnt bolted down solid yet either.

Not knowing if there has ever been any previous work done, body/frame-wise, I would suggest putting it back the same way.
Do you have the car in the air, or is it sitting on level ground? If you have it up on jack stands, then this might be expected, since the frame will flex some. If it is sitting on level ground, it is most likely a minor issue with the body. Trying to "fix" it by adding shims will create a problem once you get it all bolted back down.
It's really hard to say, but my thought would be to replace the mounts, and go back the same way, and use the bolt to pull the body back down.

I think you nailed it, it is up on jack stands in the center of the car and on front, and the back is just "hanging" so that is probably it, I knew you guys would have the answer....

You might wanna wait until you put the car back on the ground, and roll it forward/backward a few feet, to finish tightening the body mount bolts...if you haven't already. This will allow the frame time to get back to "normal", and make it easier to tighten the bolts, without the chance of damaging the body.
Prolly won't hurt anything if you have already tightened them....just takes a little of the "Ruh-Roh" out of the equation.

Hey Jason,
Want to do the same thing on my 72. (see my post "Project creep big time!" and thanks to Joel for directing me to this thread!) Any pointers? I assume I need to loosen ALL the body mounts before trying to lift the body. How did you lift the body? I saw somewhere a guy used a 2X8 to spread the load with a jack under it. I also may need to replace the body mount reinforcements that are on the body since they are pretty rusted, fuel lines too (car is from Canada!). Is there enough room to do this without lifting the body off completely? Also anybody have a preference for replacement mount suppliers? It looks like quality varies drastically! Thanks all.

Mario, I don't think you can replace the fuel lines without taking the body a lot farther UP than for just replacing the mounts. It could be possible, I s'pose, but I doubt you would be able to use pre-formed lines. I have heard of guys using a roll of fuel line, and just rolling it out while running it down the frame, and bending as needed at obstacles along the way.That would work, but it would not look "correct", if you care about that sort of thing.
