Got another question.
After paint is stripped down to factory primer I noticed that that I have some cracks in the fiberglass. What is the proper material to repair this and could I use epoxy primer as a foundation for new paint job?
What are the pros and cons of epoxy primer on fiberglass as opposed to polyester primer?
Also was there a seperation pin stripe on two tone factory paint jobs and was it painted or tape?
This is for an 82.
Thanks

The proper way to fix cracks is to use a half inch diameter die grinder (or equivalent), and grind a trough almost all the way through the fiberglass. If you can get to the back, grind through and put several layers of masking tape on the back. Then tear, not cut, fiberglass mat to slightly wider than the trough. It will take several layers to be deep enough. Mix a little resin, paint it into the trough, add mat, force out air bubbles and repeat until the mat is at least as high as the surrounding painted body. After it hardens, use a small hard block and 80 grit sandpaper to get it down until you start sanding the surrounding paint. Leave it at that until you block the body for paint and it will be invisible. My paint expert, who is also a House of Color expert, says to use epoxy primer, then a high build primer to block, then a sealer, then color. I am afraid I am not sure about the stripe, but I believe it was painted. Many GM cars of that age had painted pinstripes.

You do have to get all the way through the crack. If you are sure, that's enough. If you are not sure, go a bit more or the crack may come back later.
And yes, my car in progress has epoxy primer.

Yes. It's a tape stripe color keyed to the upper and lower exterior colors. For 82, the stripe package may have included a hood accent stripe. Not sure whether the 81 two-tones got the hood accent.
