With the body of my 73 out at the media blaster I have been getting ready to order some materials for the body work.  What have you guys used before and where did you get it from?  I have some stuff laying around, bout I am conserned about compatibility issues.  A 73 has SMC panels right?  Does that use an epoxy or plolyester resin?

Matt, I am interested in what you found out about body work. I have a place on one of my front fenders of my '79 above the tire were a chip about 2" by 1" has been knoced out and I need to repair it. I would appreciate any info you can give me about repairing it or a good source to go to.

Both could work well, depending on where you need them.  The first one is better for stress and load, so if there is a question use this one.

The second one is a filler.  It's not so much for maintaining strength, just filling a hole.  It will be strong enough for non stressed repairs.  But note, its a rough finish.  To repair a hole this is good, it's stonger than regular filler.  But you will still need a very thin coat of regular fill over either repair to get a very good top surface.

Evercoat makes a Vette body panel adhesive and filler for SMC fiberglass.  It is available at your local auto body shop supply store (you can find one in the yellow pages).  It runs about $25.00/qt.  This was highly recommended by two local vette shops in the area.  I have used this product for both bonding fiberglass and filling low spots and cracks.  I have been very pleased with the product.  When you go to the local auto body supply shop (not parts house, these guys specialize in paint and products), tell them the year of your vette and they will make sure you get the product that is for your vette.

I ended deciding to use the epoxy along with some fiberglass mat for reinforment.  To fill large or deep holes I am using the epoxy along with some glass bead for non structural, and cotton flox for structural repairs.  For a smooth surface filler I am using a product from evercoat called Rage Gold.  I havent actually worked with it yet because im not to that point, but it was recomended to me.  I have worked with the epoxy before, but not on a corvette, on fairings on an aluminum kit plane.
