Coating inside of metal bumpers

Vette(s): 1968 white coupe. red interior 327/350 hp. 107,000 mi.
What is your opinion on rust proofing the inside of metal C-3 bumpers. What have people used in the past. I think rubber rust proofing would rub off in summer when washing or waxing the car. I used GM  OEM  frame wax and it rubs off.
