Vette(s): 1980 Corvette L-48 automatic all original with 129,000 Kilometres(77000. Miles) Dark claret exterior, Dark claret interior
Does anyone know if there was a difference in the curve of the glass on different years?
My 1980 passenger side seems to sit differently than the drivers side which sits in there really nice and I have tried to adjust it. when you look at them off the car they even look slightly different almost like there is more curve in the glass on the one side. I have not owned it since new and the previous owner said it was like that when he got the car. Tinting and everything looks the same but it just looks diiferent like it is off a different car.

Maybe it was built on a Monday morning after a really good weekend?!
It's possible to have different tops, because they came to the fact. in bulk, but weren't actually in "pairs". Each one is like our Vettes, no two are exactly the same. Different suppliers carry different stock,(glass, frames, latches) and GM did not stop the line if something didn't fit "perfect". You just have another "Unique" Vette!

I have a set of 80-81 mirrored tops on my '72. The right one does not seem to fit flush with the rear post as well as the left side. This is the 2nd passenger side top I have had on the car. The first one fit the same way too. It flew off on the freeway due to a faulty latch. Its a good idea to invest in a set of latch locks.
The fit must be one of those wonderful GM irregularities, although in this case it would actually be LOF (the manufacturer of the glass tops ).
One last point, no one has ever seemed to notice the fit of my tops.....It must be an owner issue!

Ya, I'am likely the only that it bothers..........it could be worse I guess. its not like I have them on much anyway. Thanks for the info.

I am going thru the same thing on glass top fit. I just purchased a pair of like new from a guy that had them on his 78. These are the GM option tops, and fit is a problem also, at the rear post.
Ron78 answered, and said he has the same thing.

Hello,
The glass tops on my 82 have production date codes that are 2 months different. These tops were definitely not "matched sets" when the cars were built.
Regards,
Tom

Mike - if I lower the receiver plate at the rear where the pin enters, I would have a perfect fit of the glass tops. The painted original tops fit perfect. I just need to lower the rear corners and I would have a nice fit with these also.

Vette(s): 1980 all org. with 18000 act. miles dk claret with matching interior..Eagle alloys ..loaded..excellent cond.
Hey Joe, I have the same problem on my 80. Have adjusted and re-adjusted the tops and still can't get it right. If the pin was a bit longer, things would align up better at the rear post. By the way, if you have the Claret interior in your car, we have the same vette.(19000 miles)

i have the claret leather interior 129,000 Km or 77,000 miles. I don't see too many of them this colour.
When I get it out I will take a picture of the way the roof fits and I have adjusted it you can really notice it when you look from the front and the one side seems to be curved more.
