I am in the process of trying to fit the doors on my '73.  I have rebuilt the hinges with new pins and bushings already.  It seems that no matter how large I make the gap at the front of the door, the front edge still binds when fully open.

Is there some trick to making this fit?  I have seen many cars that end up with two small paint cracks there before from making it too tight?

Thanks,
-Matt

Binds at the top, middle, bottom, or all?
Is the car down on the ground? Has it been up in the air for a while?
Does the surface of the door match the surface of the fender, as in, does it stick out/in farther than the fender?
What about the gap at the rear of the door...how does it look?
Has the body been off the frame?

It hits at one spot above and below the "point" on the front of the door
The car is sitting on its own wheels and has been for over a year.
The two surfaces are pretty flush.
I can adjust the rear gap since the rear fender had some repair work done to it.  (It will be pretty much sand to fit.)
body has been off the frame, but is back on now.

After an unfortunate incident with a AAA wrecker driver who dropped my car on it's nose, the drivers door had to be sanded due to a pinch point that was created.  It has been about a year and a half since it was fixed and it is starting to touch again.

It might be part of the settling out process from the body being off.

You may want to pull the door in just a little past fender flush, and open the door to see if this will help. Your door gap to fender should be about 3/16"

I ended up shifting the hinge as far to the back of the car as possible. I had to open the holes in the door slightly since they only allow up and down adjustment. This allows the door to swing in more than forward. It seems to have given me enough clearance.

Part of the problem is when I got the car it was siting with the nose unsupprted and had been that way for at least ten years.
