My 69 coupe passenger door is binding. I had the car up on jacks and everything looks fine. If I take the pressure off the front tires I can open the door no problem. THe hinges and door bushings look fine. I hope I havent screwed something up big time. Any thoughts

Are you sure the hinges are OK? It sounds like a hinge or hinge pin broke causing the door to sag. You might want to check the hinges again for good measure.

I have the same problem with my 74. It sticks or hangs up every time. I had my brother in law check the hinges and pins and they are good. He said that he would take the door off if necessary to see what is causing it. But I have to wait until he gets and opening in the shop. Could be this weekend or next month.

Hey Mike, just thought about this. what about your body mounts? Sure they aren't rusted out or through? Might want to check them on that side.

I adjusted the door and fixed the problem, BUT the body mounts are shot and I think that is a big problem as far as installing new ones. I would love to put in new ones but the labor is a killer.

That's your problem, these cars are pretty flexible, and the door gaps can change a lot between being on jacks or on the wheels. Try a convertible for flexible! Joe

When I put new calipers on my car, I put it up on jack stands. At the time I was doing this, I happened to read a post about the flexability of the corvette. It said to unlatch the glass T-tops, unlatch the hood, and open the doors, so there wouldn't be a lot of stress on the fiberglass or glass t-tops. While I had it on the jacks, I tried to shut the doors, and they were really tight. It seems to me I followed good advice. When I set it on the ground, everything worked perfect.

Pshh, tell me about it! Whenever I have her up on jackstands, I can't even shut the doors properly. I got scared the first day, and then when she was back on the ground, and everything worked I just laughed. I'm sure being a convt doesn't help though! Now that I think about it, when the doors are open, and the car is up, there's not much holding it together if there is no roof. Kinda scary when your car can flex that much, isn't it?

The convertibles are like wet noodles when on jackstands. Don't even think about adjusting anything on jackstands because it will never fit once you put the car back on it's own 4 tires. It's funny just how flexible they are. My husband's 65 has a tube frame chassis from the back of the doors aft and a full roll cage. It's rock solid - enough that when on jackstands on the not perfectly level garage floor, you can rock it back and forth on 3 of the 4 stands - and he shims it with a few quarters. Amazing difference side by side in the garage. ~Juliet
