My 74 doors won't stay open..Zip's, and several other catalogs say that the check springs are broken or missing, so I ordered a pair. It was nice enough to get the car out of the garage today, so I got it out and opened the doors. To my surprise, I found that both doors HAD check springs. Not missing, not broken, but Backwards. As far as I can tell, the spring should go between the two rollers (verified by checking the assembly manual. Mine are on the other side of the hinge, and who ever painted the car painted over them. My question is, how can I remove them so they can be installed correctly?

There's a tool for that! Type "How to replace the spring clip on a Corvette" in your Search box and it will bring several YouTube instruction films up showing how to remove and replace the spring with doors on and doors off. It also shows the tool that they use to effect this operation. Hope this helps.

Jeff,
I went and bought a relatively cheap large screwdriver and took a propane torch to it in a vice, and I had the tool in about 20 minutes. Handy pry tool for other uses too.
