A friend has asked me to help him replace the door hinge pin bushings and pins on his 69 roadster.  In reading Ive found that some recommend removing the door  and hinge and others seem to be able to do this job with the door on the car.  Has anyone done this and have any tips or words of wisdom from lessons learned the hard way to pass on before we tackle this job this weekend? Having done this on other GM cars - it can be a PITA - I found that leaving the door ON - is the easiest - as long as you support the door at the regular height - Doing it alone - I used a padded siccor jack to suport -or slightly raise the door - I did the top hinge first - the the bottom - just takes a little finness and some lubrication - WD40 worked for me

Only thing I can add to Big Al's advice is..."Watch yer fingers!!!!"

I'd agree with leaving the door and hinges attached. The hinges are a major pita to get back in the right place so the door is adjusted correctly....don't ever remove a hinge unless it's absolutely necessary...
A floor jack(or two) with a section of 2x4 will hold the door up without damaging it, while ya do one hinge at a time...

I did mine leaving the hinges in place. One trick is to file a flat spot on the side of the pin head for the top pin. This will allow the pin to clear the top of the front fender as you pull it out.

I guess I'm the only one to remove the hing from the car body.  I left it attached to the door.  I did this to get clearance for the pin and the fender.  I did have help used the floor jack and did not have any alignment trouble.  Luck I'm guessing.  If I had to do it again I think I would try and file the head on the upper pin.  That sounds a little easier.

Thanks guys, Ill let you know how it goes.  Tentive plans are to try this this coming weekend.  Filing the head and leaving the door attached sounds like a less painful way so we will probably try that first.
