You most likly do not need to replace the hinge. To replace the hinge you need to take a lot of the dash apart. You should be able to replace the hinge pin and bushing. Most corvette part sellers have the bushings. Here are the steps.
1)remove the window crank, lock button, & door panel. You will need a small button hook or similar tool to pull the spring clip off the crank & button.
2) you need a helper.. remove the hinge to door connectors. The door will slide away from the car.
3) remove the old pin and bushing. If you can not get the upper pin out without hiting the body simply cut it off and remove.
4)Install new bushings and pin. Be carefull of the body so you do not chip the paint. You need two bushings and one pin for each hinge. If you had to previously cut the old upper pin out just install the new one from the bottom pointing up. Press in place with C-clamp.
5) install door again caution on the body. Until you have it lined up you could have door to body contact and chip the paint.
6)reinstall the door panel. If you have a little extra time now would be a good time to lube the window & latchs.
Good luck.

Conv74BB;
I was following this thread (your posting) and paying attention to what you said. But you don't explain about "Not having to replace the hinge" My doors (81) droop slightly also...could you elaborate please?...
Thank you
Fred

The dash doesn't need to come out. Its a lot tight, but it is possible.

Ol'Scratch The hinge has a bushing in it and the hinge pin over time causes the hole in the bushing to become egg shaped. Door sags more in in spot than another. If this is the case just replacing the bushings fixes the problem. They come out easy and install easy. The repair can be as quick with the only complication being if you have power windows/ elect wires between the body and door.
So can't I just hammer out the pin on one hinge then without having to remove the door? Seems like I could just support the door (or have a friend hold it), pound out the pin and remove bushings on one hinge. Then replace with new bushings and pin, then repeat on the second hinge. Why does the door have to come off?

Not sure if you can tilt the door out far enough to get at the brass bushings. They are kind of "captive" in the body part of the hinge. There is a shoulder on them so they need to be removed with the hinge seperated. Might have to take the door all the way off in order to save your paint job. Replaced many of these over the years, but not on any Vettes, mostly past Novas and Chevelles. Same system, tho. Mike
So I just discovered a couple of new complete door hinges that came with my Vette. So I'd like to get the pins and bushings off the new hinges and replace the pins and bushings on my old hinges. So I don't want to replace the entire hinges.
I guess I can just tap the pins out of the new hinges?
