Vette(s): 1978 Corvette Light Blue Pulled from the swamps of Miami! Its a driver and back on the road!

Ok, this post started in December 2013????now it's 2014 almost 2015!

My Corvette Light Blue pulled from the swamps in Florida and bought from the Alligator Man was

my first Corvette. Bought site unseen other than pictures online (STUPID), I was the proud owner of my first Corvette. It was a nightmare but one of the better deals was that the paint job was not too bad but inconsistent and little nicks not dents or paint crackled but not bad.  My son and I redid most of the interior not necessary all brand new other than new leather seats but touched up!  Well I thought if I'm driving this around places and getting good looks and waves when I go by I might as well get it painted completely so it looks nice inside and out! So 6 years after it rolled FELL off the car carrier in the dead of night se got what she deserved, a new paint job!

Some might remember my posts about price and what to expect for the type of paint job, quality?

I could not find anyone who wanted to paint it???? they want the insurance money they want the hail damage repairs they do not want to  paint a car???? I had not dents no real body work to speak of but no one wanted to paint it. THe next to last guy promised me in April, then june then july  ETC........................................................................  What a joke.

But finally I got another recommendation for a guy and he took it in and I told him no rush the summer was over and no need for it in the dead of winter in PA.  Well he got it done and it took a while then 2 hours after it was ready he wanted it out of the garage......snow storm coming freezing rain had it for 3 months now it had to be out  right away??????????

Ok I can deal with that but was not happy!!!!! but I had stopped in not to bug him 1 time in 3 months and my heart just about fell out of my body!!!!!! Ok no T tops on and no windows because it was getting painted......DONT YOU TAPE AND PLASTIC UP THE OPEN SEATS AND INTERIOR???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????//

THe whole interior was dust dirt and my new leather seats??????had I know I would have rapped them up....... I did not say a word thinking it would jepordize the finish job.......

Sorry for the long road, so I have it home 1 year later?????? do you think I will remember how to get her back together again????? I will be waiting for warm April weather so it will be afun finding everything again!

Hopefully you can see the pictures which will not do it justice but I am pretty pleased with the overall job!!!!!!   other then the interior they did not clean up....so I think while everything is apar I will put new carpet in!  Any suggestions on this item will be greatly appreciated.

After a year of basically no enjoyment of driving my car I cannot wait for Spring to get her back on the road with a new paint job!!!!!!!

I guess there is hope but there has got to be a better way of painting a Corvette!!!!

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
It is funny how shops do not want to do a simple job.  I ran into similar issues the guys that would do it wanted an arm and a leg for the paint job even just a driver paint job.  I have the opportunity to run my car through a corvette shop to their painter.  They do not do any painting at their shop.  So I'm getting my paint job at shop cost.  Which looks to me about 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost.

The paint job is the last big item on my car.  I was having no luck getting shops to do it because they make so much more on insurance claims that they'd have to charge me $8-$10k to make the same money.  Getting a good paint job done buy someone not working in a shop is almost as pricey and the wait is long.  That's why I started working on mine. Luckily I'm just looking for a 30/30 paint job.  Good from 30 feet and 30 mph!

All that being said, that is a nice looking paint job yo have there!

Sorry between busy as everyone else has been this Holiday Season. Merry Christmas everyone. Thanks for putting those pics in and if you could send me to the right help session so I can review how to do that, I get the page to upload them but then can,t link it to the Post? I used to be able to do it but its so long in between the Dimensia takes over?

Anyway the paint job cost me $3800 and its a recommended shop I was lucky to get him to take me in and only because the garage that did most of my engine work and getting the driver up to speed from the Alligator salesman in Florida recommended me to this shop.. So when I mentioned that the garage recommended me to him he said if he gave me his name he would honor the recommendation and take me in... I am very pleased with the paint job.  He did some front and rear bumper re-alignment and very cheap! I would highly recommend his shop but as you have all said he has so much other insurance work hail damage and he does cars boats airplane parts so he has more then enough work.  Just a little bit  bummed about the interior was not protected more but  I think its has now made me think about do new carpet to match the paint job.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I will be looking for info on heat resistance noise resistance and good carpet and where to get it from so I will go post that on the interior page but open to suggestions.

Thanks again for putting those pics on the page and I will learn how to do that.

Happy New Year.  Cant wait for good weather and getting my car all back together again????!!!!@@@@@@@%%%%$$##&&&&****  I hope! and get her on the road!
