Has anyone used these bumpers? I have one that after mounting, wrinkled up washboard ripples on one side.
No help from manufacturer, they are upset because I am on my third bumper from them. First time they sent wrong end, second one wrinkled, third one would not fit, so I kept the wrinkled one, it fit great. They wanted it back, but another 2 weeks of returning and shipping, I decided to try and fix it. Sanded down, and wrinkles out. After painting, looked great. After mounting to cowl, wrinkles came back. I need to get wrinkles out, and want to refinish on the car. Has anyone repaired one of these? The honeycomb impact absorber underneath is not interfering with the fit. I will be glad to send pictures if someone can advise prep and finish repair.
Thanks,
Boatman

What mounting hardware did you use? Is this your rear bumper?

Front. Only wrinkled on the drivers side. It has relieved itself some, but still bad at the nose front.
When I first mounted it, the wrinkles showed up. Taking it off, sanding down, then to finish, then to primer and paint. Looked good. Mounted to cowl, and wrinkles came back. I backed off on the torque, still there. on the mounting hardware, I used the individual flange pieces with the studs, and on to the mounting holes of the cowl.
At the center section of the bumper, I used the same pieces that are used mounting the urethane bumpers, which are the longer flanges with 2 studs on each piece.
I am ready to take it off again, let it settle back to original shape, and try again. The ripples are front to back. The passenger side is excellent. These mounting studs have me curious about this, but I have had this bumper on and off 3 times already.

The reason I asked was. I had a tru flex rear installed last winter.(came out great) the body shop wanted the long mounting (original style) hardware, he said it will intall easier and hold the shape better. Also I can not beleive a tru flex bumper would wrinkle. Mine was as stiff and hard as Regular fiberglass. Yet they say it flexes a bit easier than the true glass. As far as I know Flex-fit and Tru-flex are both Fiber glass with a flex additive. Are you sure that they didn't send you urethane?

75 JBR - I sent you an e-mail. Got it figured out, stress after mounting at center of inside support, caused from the center vertical crash supports rubbing the inside shoulder of the female area of the bumper. Tighten up the mounting bolts at flange, would cause stress wrinkles at that area. Not a good match. Should be fine now, will go at it again tomorrow. Thanks to all for replys.
