Vette(s): 68 Convertible International Blue with Bright blue vinyl & white top. 390HP 427 4 speed numbers matching only options are posi-traction & speed minder.
Someone who knows the correct floor insulation in a 68 Convertible please respond.  When driving my '68 Convertible, it COOKS my feet due to the heat.  It seems that there is supposed to be a rigid tunnel insulator (Zip products offers as item #ZM-317; Corvette America as item # 1824 & Eckler's as item # 28836).  My vehicle still has the clips.  Question #1: Do I HAVE to remove the transmission to install??  Next question: Zip Products offers a foam collar (item #ZM-2548) & Corvette America offers item #X2475.  Did this foam collar come new on the '68?  Question #3: Eckler's offers underfloor insulation as 2 MORE pieces (Items A8458R & A8458L) $29 for EACH side.  Is this INSTEAD of the #28836?  Did the '68s have BOTH??  Someone please tell me how to restore this vehicle's floor insulation to judging quality AND how to stop my feet from feeling medium-well cooked after 1 hour's drive...  Thanks!

The tunnel insulation is a major pain to install with the trans in the car, but it can be done. That being said...it is easier to remove the trans, and do it that way.

The foam collar can be installed with the trans in the vehicle. I'm not sure if that piece would be correct for a '68 or not. I can't recall when they started putting the foam collar on the cars. My '74 had it, and it is shown in the assy. manual. The last time I had the car judged at NCRS, the judges questioned me about it, and I had to prove that it was original to the car by showing them the assembly manual.

I would also recommend you put some heat barrier down under the carpet. It will definitely help with the heat, and it is not detectable when judging.

If you plan on having your car judged at NCRS, or Bloomington type meets, please get the factory "AIM"(Assembly Instruction Manual) for your car. It will tell you everything you need to know about what it had, and how to install it.
Also, get a NCRS "TIJG"(Technical Information/Judging Guide) for your year. It will tell you what the judges look for, give you specific configurations on parts, and lots more.
