well I put my car up on the rack this saturday morning before I left the shop..
I did so to see how easy it was going to be to pull the trans cross member....
there is some patch work on the frame under the drivers door.... its surrounded by rust.. looks like im going to need to get my frame dipped and repaired while i have the body off..
anyone know of any place decent near arkansas.. i cant find anyplace around here that does it.
anyone know where to get frame sections ?

Ben,Corvette America show frame parts in their catalogue. Mine is a 2000, but they should still carry them. Prices then were around $2000 for sections.

I was thinking about getting it sanblasted before getting it dipped..
I have found a guy in baton rouge who will give me a solid frame (damage in front where i dont need any pieces)
so im going to pull mine.. identify any weak spots and weld in new sections from the scrap frame..
i found redi-strip in jackson mississippi will dip and powder coat it for 600$
is this about right price wise..??
I found a few people documenting their frame off's and they mention painting the inside of the frame.. how does one do this..
I have little or no body experience past paint prep..

Ben, the only way I can think one could paint the inside of a frame would be to immerse it in the paint or an electrostatic type coating. I'm not sure I see the benefit of this on a restoration that will be cared for and protected from the elements. I mean, we garage and cover our prized toys and avoid driving in the rain. It may be a bit of overkill.
Thinking back to several threads about mice..........Maybe we should teach the little effers to paint? Give them all little spray guns

is the powder coating a dip process also ?? or is this just a spray on the outside..
also is the 600$ a good price ?

Last night (couldnt sleep) I pulled the seats, console, carpet, hood, rocker mouldings, and used pb blaster on all my body mount bolts..
all of my mount bolts looked good except for the ones everyone says are the easiest.. the kick panel bolts are rusted up pretty bad.. guess i had a water leak at some point.. ouch.
i put the driver seat back in.. so i can take it to the shop and install my roller rockers (comp cams magnum pro).. too bad i wont get but half a day of use before I start tearing it apart..
and with the driver rocker moulding off that frame patch looks absolutely $hitty.. (welded what looks like angle iron right on to rust) and my rocker channel on the drivers side is horrible.. the passenger side looks great though.. I wonder how this happened ?? any theories??
by the way.. anyone know where to get rocker channels ?

The rocker channels seem to be the best place for water to collect. Maybe one side drained better. Any water that leaks down the door pillars seem to have a direct path to the #2 mount. I never noticed until after I began the work on my that there is a hole in the post where, if you have electic windows, the wires go from the inside through to the door with a rubber cover. If you don't have power windows, there is suppose to be a plug. My plugs were MIA so water from rain/car washing had a clear openning to the inside.

It is strange how it works. My frame is in great shape, except for the radiator support, it's shot. But yet the body mount bolts at the bottom of the pillers as rusted on the top of the bolts. Bottoms are fine. Just depends on how water gets where.

ill check for those plugs...
what is funny if the not only the rocker channel but the frame right there under it badly rusted..
my radiator support.. an infamously bad part is good..
the drivers side emergency brakes were one solid piece of rust when i got it..
almost like the car sat in water at one point.. like if it was on blocks and fell off on the drivers side.
but there is no fiberglass damage i can see.. and right now .. the interior is stripped to the drivers dash and drivers seat..
by the way.. i wonder how much trouble i would have been in had i been stopped driving it today with no hood and no seat belts installed..
