I seem to remember the frame vin on the bumper car years being near the #4 mount on the drivers side..

but some sources ive looked at say just ahead of #3 mount.

some say both..

anyone know this one. I need to make sure i protect the vin portions of my frame when i do the repair.

thanks

Not knowing were # 4 frame mount is, I can tell you were I was told it was located. Driver side rear wheelwell frame. Either on top of the frame or an the back side. I hope this helps.

Right over the rear wheel on the left(driver's) and right under the sill, same side. I used a coarse scotch wheel on a drill to remove paint and rust scale so I could read the numbers. Those wheels last a long time and work great for heavy stripping, like you, I couldn't wait to clean them off and compare! I think my body was still dangling from the hoist when I just had to look!

Even if the frame is badly rusted, I've seen the numbers come up with a mild acid wash. But be careful and do some research on the correct method!
It's basically the same method used by law enforcement to bring up ground off numbers on stolen cars or guns for that matter.
