Thanks Tux. Why is it that they don't fit?How did they do it at the factory? If I stripped it down would i find filler from the factory?

Well I would guess it would be because of the material being used is either poured into a mold or injection molded. Either way the mold itself is varies and the material overlaps the mold. Then it is trimmed up.
You won't find sealer between the OEM bumper and the car.You may find sealer if the previous owner placed something on the hardware kit to help hold it in place prior to the bumper installation. (I used bondo to help hld mine in place in some spots.) That would be if it had been changed out before. There isn't much room to work with in the bumper area so some ingenuity may be necessary during installation.
I had mine on again off again a bunch to get it trimmed to fit right. My nose is fiberglass and I molded it in so I wanted the seams to be at kept to a minimum before the glass was layed on.
Unfortunitly I didn't lay enough glass on the outer corners and they have devloped some cracking which I need to go back and repair. (no big deal!)
Hope this helps, if not fire away I have been where you are going before...

Well I didn't mean sealer. What I was getting at is if this fitment was like this on the GM assy. line did they use bondo,OR are we having to use fillers and such because we can't get NOS parts?I've been told that no two Vettes were the same do to the nature of the beast. This is interesting. If say I got real lucky and found an NOS front bumper cover that it would fit without adjustments and filler?
[QUOTE=dnv] After the wrecker driver dropped both ends of mine, I went with fiberglass on both ends (this is an old pic). They were wavy on the back and cracked on the front and since the wrecker company's insurance paid, I elected for glass after consulting with my painter.
Dave is right though, any bump will crack the glass so you have to know where your nose and tail are at all times...
It took him some work (nothing I would ever attempt) but he got a great fit. I'll get around to posting pix someday.

Hey Dennis- How about a story with pics for the next newsletter?
My front and rear both have slight visible waves when you get the light right. Hey it's a driver, I'll live with it.

Yep. My '81 also has the distortion blues. No big deal, but I know it's there. I'm about to have the car painted. Hate to have to replace the bumper also. Just one more thing I can't afford. Had to trade for the paint job.

Well I guess I'll live with it for now. It's not that bad yet. When I push it down I can feel something under there. I was thinking about some heavy duty epoxie and just gule it if I can get under there.

Funny you should say that, cause I was thinking the same thing. Some of those double sided adhesive pads hold pretty well with the right prep work. My problem is just to the left of the license plate, the bottom portion is rising up. Those bumpers are famous for that. That proves they're original. You should see my rear spoiler. Annoyingly wavey, but authentic. Let us know if you find a temp. fix. Anythings worth a try. Lotta money, and a lotta work to replace it. I can hardly find the time to drive 'em, much less work on 'em, but I love that too.
