I'm getting the front end of the Vette redone the 22nd and I need to buy a new front bumper. Anyone know who has the best quality chrome bumpers? I'm also thinking about getting a '68-'72 LT1/BB hood. Anyone know of a good used one or where to find one?
I'd like to know too if that hood gives any more clearance over the carb. That's my main reason to get one, plus, they look good too.

I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...

The front bumper already had one bending and tweeking and crappy chrome job. It would probably cost as much for straightening and rechroming as a new one, wouldn't it?

We charge $399.00 to get your bumper rechromed. They are able to fix the usual dings and twists, and they take off the old chrome, so it doesn't matter if is a poor job. However, the bumper must be solid and thick enough to meet their minimum standard. Most rechromed bumpers are nicer than original. Repros are available in both American made and import, for about $400, and $350,, respectively.

Are the U.S. made noticeably better than the imports? I've seen some Taiwan chrome on exterior mirrors and sent them back.

Yes, there is a noticeable difference, but even the imports are acceptable driver quality.
To answer your other question, there is more room under a big block hood. I believe it is about an inch and a half. There are lots of sources for reproduction hoods. I have a used original that had a hole in the middle that was patched fairly well, but would need a little work to make it nice.

I've seen hoods at several places. They usually have the 'hand laid' and 'press molded', with the latter being almost twice the price. How rough are the hand laid on the underside and is it worth trying to smooth it out? I'd like to find a good used one, but haven't had any luck yet
