As always thanks for your help!

Thank you... is the upper front of the door jam wider then the rest? My doors were removed when it was painted and I'm not sure they were ever put back correctly. The gap at the top, front leading of the door seems to be a lot wider then the rest. I've noticed this true on a lot of the sharks!!

lol....

My 76 had so wide a gap between the front fender and the top of the door on the passengers side I could insert my thumb in it...and this car was never wrecked when I bought it... Fit and finish was abi-normal to say the least...

I've seen some pretty bad ones too. GM wasn't known for perfect fit with these cars. A lot of times you can really help by readjusting the door. The gap at the top is very common.
I've done one or two that were so bad, I actually had to "glass" the door to the rear quarter and then cut the gap in with a dremel. It's a very time consuming process.

The NCRS Technical Manuals cover this type of information. They can be ordered online at www.ncrs.org for $30.00.

For instance, in the 1980-1982 third edition on page 53 it states "Generally, the gap between panels is specified as 1/8" to 3/16" and the overlap, or height of one panel in relation to another, may be up to 1/8" in a local area. Gaps around headlamp doors should be equal from side to side within +/- .02"; the gap on the hood should be equal side to side within 1/16"."

I did not see anything specific to door gap, but I would think it should be equal at the front and back within 1/16" and uniform from top to bottom within 1/16".

Hope this helps. |thumb|
