Destiny will be going into the paint shop tomorrow. I'd like to know from you guys if there's anything that I need to check before hand. I've already gone over her with my fingers looking for rough edges around doors, lights, tail light holes in the tail, etc. Gotta go find that email that has the NCRS paint codes too.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Darla,

Are you having a complete removal of the old paint for this paint job? Or are you touching up some spots. I need a couple of spots touched up, but I don't know whether to do it or not. I've heard that it is best to remove all paint, down to bare fiberglass. It gets kinda expensive to have it done that way...

Paint codes can be found in- www.corvetteactioncenter.com/

Yes Glen, complete paint job. Kinda had to since I got hit. I'll tell you where to go to see the pictures if you want to see them. She's got her tail, headlight doors, mirrors, gas door, etc all off her. She's this dove grey primer now. It's soooo close! I'll give them till noon to call me, then I'm calling the dealer and find out if they're painting or what. Getting antsy, can you tell?
How big are the spots you need done? I've heard that you can have those spots feathered in by a painter with an airbrush and it wouldn't cost that much. Still alot, but not as much as a complete. Thanks for the instant message about your family too, interesting.

Darla,
Good luck with the paint job. I hope it turns out well. If it is a reliable paint shop, you should have not worries. You said they took all the paint off. Did they gel-coat it? Don't ask me what that is, ask them. !! |smile|

Gelcoat her? I thought that gel coat mostly goes on boats, jet ski's, that kind of thing. Well, she's already done, so it's probably too late for that anyhow. They put so many different processes on her it was a trip. Just before he sprayed the clear, he put on this this film of something to help the paint not shrink up. I had no idea what went into painting a vette till now.

Although it is probably too late, I would suggest that you go over her again 2 or 3 more times. Those little things sometimes seem to grow overnight. So when can we expect pictures of the new lady?

Now both of you guys have lost me! Glenn, please explain the gelcoat business. Rick, please explain your last post! What do you mean by going over her again? She should be coming out of the booth by now and into the "drying tent". I'm planning on taking my neice down with me at 1 to take a good look at her. You guys have anything else besides confusing me? You shouldn't do that you know, I confuse easily! |laugh|

I sure have but not this year yet. Too busy with club stuff and other runs. lol And trying to get the car done. It's been a real fight. Too many letters and too many calls to people who couldn't make a decision. Finally got one though. Going to see her in a few, so I'll post what I find here tonight! :)

Hi you guys! I went down to the shop and there she was out in the bright CA sun showing off her new paint! It looks freakin great! No drips, big dirt or anything. I took my neice Amanda who's 13 and my detail helper with me. She's got great little eyeballs and she didn't see a thing either. It's almost too good. She looks a little lighter, but it was in bright sun and no dark stripes to shadow the paint. Yea, that's it. I'll go down on Friday to check again and see the dark brown that they've hopefully painted on the tail. Things are going good finally! |biggrin|

I know I have mentioned that my brother in law has a body shop. He is a perfection freak, but the kind that I want to paint my Vette. After all the body work and primer and sanding and tac ragging, he goes over them again by touch and look at every detail. That is what I was talking about. Like under the wheel openings, on the lower fenders, and above the rear window where little stress cracks can show up and if not fixed before painting will come back very soon afterwards. |smile|
