I stopped by Lews today to see if the insureance adjuster had relooked at the car.Lew was concerned about the thickness of the paint on the fender,he's worried that the adjuster would think the car has been hit before...Looking on the underside of fendre shows no signs of any repair before.Why I say this is the thickness is close to about a 1/16,the best way I can describ what I'm saying is it looks like someone (when you float a wall with spackle to get a real smooth surface)floated the car with body putty.Lew said not toworry he can still fix it(I'm not worried I have seen his work and I have all the faith in the world with his work).So has anyone seen or heard of this being done before?

How are we measuring the thickness of the paint?
The factory may have done extra bodywork if the panel wasn't right, due to a problem in the mold, or even an accident on the line. Cars DID bang against each other on occasion, and had to be sent back to the body shop for repairs. A gouge in the fender would have required more than just sanding out and re-paint. They would have ground it down, and used a resin filler, or something similar to get the panel back to "acceptable". The same thing could have happened in a parking lot after the car was sold, so, who knows when the repair/repaint was done?
With no evidence of a previous fracturing of the panel from the inside, I would have to guess it is a previous, minor repair.

Whatever it is, Lew can take care of it. Since the car has been around for 36 years God only knows how many times it's been touched up. As long as it's right when you get it back!
