Topic: Headlight door operation
in Forum: C3 Body
Since I haven't aquired a service manual for my shark yet I wonder if someone could give me a rundown on headlamp door operation so I can try to determine why mine don't open or close like they're supposed to.

The really simplified version would go somthing like this:
The headlights are vaccuum operated, controlled by the headlight switch, and the headlight over-ride switch, located under the steering column. The system gets its vac. from the engine, and stores it in a tank. That tank can be what looks like a large coffee can, or it can be a part of the front bumper/structure of the car (such as on my '74).
There are two headlite actuator canisters, one for each lite. There are also two actuator "relay valves", that control which side of the actuator gets vac. to either open, or close the lite assembly. These are controlled by the lite switch.
There are a lot of vac. lines in these cars, which mean a million different places for a leak. Every part of the headlite system is also a possible leak point.
That's the simple overview. A service manual(factory) will be a big help with any/all your projects!! There are also several headlight/wiper door vaccuum service publications available to help with the troubleshooting of these systems.

Also I'm not sure if your "75" will follow this exactly but it's a start.
