I just had someone replace both headlight actuators on my 1982 Collectors Edition.  Everything works great but when closed both housings are slightly above the hood line.  The actuators are adjusted as far as they will go.  Is there any adjustments to the housings themselves?

I found an August 2007 posting that answered my question.  Thanks.

The mechanic had already adjusted them as much as he could.  He was going to try to see if he could put spacers on the four bolts on the actuators to try to get some distance.  Was going to see if the rods were either longer or not treaded as far on the new actuators vs. the originals.  Any other suggestions?????

Pete, were the housings level with the body before the actuator change? If they were, then I wouldn't be adjusting any of the housing adjustments...might be opening a whole new can-o-worms!

If they were, then the rods on the new actuators may be a little longer than your originals. Spacing the actuators out will make the housing sit lower, but you really shouldn't need to do that...Perhaps the actuators were not stamped correctly, or something.
You may be able to run a tap on the rods, and give them more threads, thereby giving more adjustment, but you'd prolly need to shorten the ends of the rods, too...they'll only thread up into the clevis so far before they bottom out.

How far above the body do the housings sit, with the engine off, compared to the level with the engine running? The AIM specifies that the housings may sit above the body line a certain amount with no vacuum...don't remember the spec off hand, but it's around 1/8", I think.Adams' Apple2008-04-11 05:13:40
