hi,
is it possible to take out the complete headlight unit at once? in the sevice manual they talk about taking out the lights.. disconnect the J-bar and then the door etc.
My bumper has been taken off already.. the 5 bolts that hold the complete unit in place are out but unit still stuck.. to my idea it might be possible if i take off that metal (which is attached to front of body over full lenght with rivits) on which front 2 bolts of unit are attached to ? or should i save myself the effort and do it the service manual way?

another question concerning the headlight: my headlights go up , stay up and go down ok.. but one of the headlights doesn't get "locked" , easy to push down manually .. how to cure this?

I was able to remove my headlight assemblies as a single unit. Very tough to do and very tight. I did remove the front head light surrounds and I would recomment masking off all of the painted covers with several layers of masking tape to protect the paint. I would also recomment putting a protective sheet of cardboard over the front radiator to protect the fins. I also removed my hood.

Although it would have probably been easier to just disconnect the headlight acutuator arm and remove the two bearings and remove the headlight assembly from the headlight frame.

Had the same problem. In my case, the weak "lock" was caused by the absence of both link springs and one of the housing springs. The second housing spring was definitely original - and definitely FRIED. $11 spring kit from Corvette Central solved the problem.
