Unlike my wife, I hate returning merchandise. I'll be placing an order for an Edelbrock Air-Gap manifold and a Thunder series carb. Haven't decided on an air cleaner but it may come down to that. My question is: Will this setup fit under an L-88 style hood ( similar to a cowl-induction one)? I'm open to suggestions for an air cleaner (drop base vs. regular). Thanks, Guys!

I am running an air-gap rpm and a speed demon.. I use a recessed dish air filter tray.. and it fits "BARELY" under an L-88 style hood.. make sure you get your carb stud as short as possible.

might be more room with an SB

Actually, I forgot to mention it's a smallblock. Going to a hi-rise man. was the reason for getting the L-88 style hood. I just didn't know if the air-gap would be too high. Thanks.

You should be able to get away with it. The suggestion for a recessed base air cleaner is a good idea. Besides giving clearance, you can use a bigger capacity, less restrictive air filter.

Wow, that recessed base really makes a difference.

Thank you, all.

I have a Factory L-88 hood with a Edlebrock RPM Air-gap manifold. My carb is a Speed Demon 850 and using the drop type airfilter base with the "wedding cake" air filter setup I am able to close my hood and get a good seal.

This is on a 427 on a 1968 roadster. It works with the Big block for me. By base engine I assume that you mean a 350? If it fits for me I would imagine you wouldn't have too much trouble.

Good luck and enjoy that new setup you got coming. I just wish I could have had the option of the shiny finish on my air gap, I spent 40 hours plus making my smooth and then shiny.

Chris
