What is your specific question about it?

Why does a hood need a thermal barrier?

I think the paint on the hood can crack if the engine's high heat is transferred to it for a long enough amount of time.

My LT-1 with a/c gets pretty hot in the summer and I've never had a problem with the paint.  I have no insulation.

I always thought the insulation was for noise deadening.

it looked like a good idea as most vehicles have underhood insulation for paint protection and sound. just wasnt sure if this kit ended up being more trouble than its worth...

I was told by an older than me gentleman at a car show that the reflection from the air filter cover can burn thru the hood paint and he showed me a cover for it when at shows, I bought one from a lady on NCRS site
