Good luck with the cables.  I am now on the 5th cross cable on mine.  For some reason, they are WWWAAAYYYY too long and come loose from the mount plate every time.  The little tab stays bolted to the car and the cable pulls free.  As the cable is hard mounted to this tab via the coating process, rather than via a real clip, you would think they would make the tab encircle the cable and clamp down when tightened up.

I have purchased 2 from Mid America and 2 from Ecklers, so I think this must be much like the rest of the parts houses.  They all buy from the same supplier, who needs to be told (if they care) that their process sux.

OK, call me bubba but:
Ive read so many posts about the hoods being jammed because of the cross cable breking and the poor quality of the aftermarket cables.  I'm not sure if this would work and certainly would not be acceptable to the NCRS guys but looking back on my younger days working on bicycles, it occurred to me that a quality shifter cable from a bicycle shop may be the answer to the poor qulity aftermarket hood cables.  The outer sheath is available in black and it is only slightly bigger than the original hood sheath.  Most have a molded on anchor on one end and bare cable on the other.  The braided bicycle cable may even fit inside of the original hood release sheath, but certainly havent tried that.  It may not work but these cables are STRONG and I dont think they would pull loose from the anchor end.  A trick working with these cables is to solder the braided cable where you are going to cut it, that keeps the loose tiny wires from unweaving.  If this is too Bubbaish, ignore me, most people do anyway...Wacko

Chip;

We pulled the latches off the hood and pulled the springs off the mounts for now.  There is a guy around OKC that has run his like this for a while and has had no probs.

I haven't noticed any buffeting or vibration, although the guy that painted it will have a stroke when he finds out!!!

I thought perhaps you could use an adele clamp to hold these down if you could find one small enough.  They work great for wiring inside Air Force aircraft and commercial as well.  It would need to be probably one size smaller than the cable casing to ensure it was down tight.

Thanks, Chip.

I love the look of yours.  My favorite color.  I could only wish my engine bay looked as good.  I especially like the seats.  They look like they are more padded than the '80.

Did you have them done special or are they the same as what you could order.  My seats are like riding on a milk crate, with no pad to speak of.

Interior is next, oh yeah, just after the 700R4 tranny later this spring!

Thanks much for the compliment.  I had them recovered and the upholstry guy added a little padding to fill out the new covers but essentially they are the same as stock.  The crossed flags were done locally by a monogram shop before I had them installed.
