It seems that I remember this topic but not the how too.
When I pull on the handle only the driver side will pop open and the pass.side won't. I think a screwdriver was used??
This is on my 81. I'd like to drive it but I need to check my fluids. I know what has to be done for the correct fix. The bracket that holds the handle is lose because the screw/bolt is stripped. I really can't fix it right now because of my back problem. Has anybody had this problem?? With my back the way it is I'll probably have to remove the seat so I can have better access to it, but right now I really need to open the hood. I went to drive it today and it started to smoke from under the car. I don't see any fluid spots on the floor. I can't describe the smell but it don't smell like a coolent loss. I've got an assy. manual and a shop manual but it doesn't have the quick fix in it.AngryCry Thanks for any and all help.

There is a tab (on my 72) that sticks down from the hood latch between the hole that the locking pin sticks into and the fender lip.  If you push on that it should rotate the latch and pull on the cable that goes over to the passenger side latch.  I hope that makes sense.

Here ya GO Michael. This should get you back in business again. Word of caution though.... take your time and go slow. Once you get her open replace the cable and fix that loose handle if you are able to. Otherwise it most likely will happen again.Tuxblacray2008-09-08 13:08:07

Thanks Guys. I haven't been able to do much of anything for awhile. I had to retire from Gulfstream after 22 yrs. It took about all of a month and a half and I said, Man this ain't working for me I've got to get another job. At least part time. I've started getting my pention and got back into building models again. I've got about 50-60 of them. I do mostly old school pro-stocks/super stocks. Anyway I had to get out of the house. I got word that Savannah Aircraft was looking for help. It's right accross the airport from Gulfstream. I filled out an app. About 4 days later they called and told me that they wanted me to come in for an interview. About another 4 days they called again and told me that they had put together a proposal and could I come in. I went in and the lady in HR told me that when the boss for the job I applied for was tripping all over himself and told HR you gotta get this man in here. He told me that he was schocked that he found someone local. He pretty much figured he'd have to go out of state to fill the job. I gotta admit he gave me a sweetheart of a proposal. Seems he needed a supervisor on second shift, one that was FAA certifed and when he told me about the job requierments I told him that that was EXACTLY what I did at Gulfstream for 22 yrs. Thats pretty cool that I will be able to pass along what I know to the next generation. Another cool thing, for me anyway, is that they don't just do Gulfstreams, but Global Express, Bombardier Falcon, Lear, pretty much the whole business jet market. They of course don't manufacture them but they do the compleation. Exteior paint. Cabin compleation ect. It's amazing that we were looking for the same thing. Anyway thanks for the info. I will put it to use tomorrow!!! well,I gotta go for now, I've got a pair of Hemi valve covers That need the chrome stripped off before I call it quits for the night. Oh the valve covers are 1/25 scale!!!

This is a real good Illistration on how  to open hoods It shows how to go through the two holes to pop open the hood. I printed this and made a tool and cary it in the car

Thanks guys. I SHOULD to be able to do this. One more question. Do I need to pull the hood release (inside the car)? When I pull the release handle the drivers side will pop open.
I really need to do this ASAP. I've got to go get my drug screen for my new job. I'd like to be able to go today, if not, tomorrow would be the last chance to do the test. My wifes Jeep is in the shop, my pickup won't start and my wife has the 82. Wow that kinda sounds like a country song!!

once you pull the release to unlatch the dirver side I dont think it will benefit you to pull the handle again while you push down on the passenger side release.  You will have to push down with some force on the latch and will feel it move, probably a quarter inch or so before it releases.  The passengers side release is precisely in front of the hole in the wiper trough, or at least it is on an 82, you just have to get the up and down angle right.

Well I went and popped the hood. I can see what you mean. It don't look right, but I've never really had a reason to look. My 82 CE has one of those black covers from Ecklers. For a long time I thought it was factory until I asked someone that had his C3 at the same car show, he didn't have one. Now my 81, I can see the cable. It's laying flat across the bottom of the well. I can also see that it looks like I can get to it from the center with the right tool. Does your special tool like a hook? If so, do you think I could use one of those fancy little tools that come with the FM diecast if I can graft a handle on there some way? It looks like it's still hooked and not broken. If it ain't broke it sure has some slack in it. Or could I use the hook tool just to get in there and pull it up? I don't really want to do anything until I feel confident enough that I won't make it worse. I think I'll take that cover off my 82. I guess the factory didn't use a cover because they knew we would have to fix the darn thing? It was the bean counters, I just know it!! You all happen to know why they left it open? Maybe the ice and snow?
