I had already posted this basic request on another forum.

I should have posted here first. I Know!

Here goes.

I am looking for a good original example of the blue GM ID tag on the drivers door on all 68-72 vettes. The ID tag had the build date and VIN.

I would also consider a real nice repro. I found a decent tag physically but the actual verbiage is not correct.

Thank you for any help.

You can buy the tags that are identical to the factory ones but, unfortunately, the pertinent info is not on them.(build date, gvw rating, etc.) I bought one off e-bay, and it is a perfect repro(for my '74), but I'm at a loss to figure out how to add the other info to it.
There is also a clear "overlay" that goes over the blue tag, but I have yet to find one of those. Adams' Apple38701.8077083333

Hey Adam,

The tags for the 73 and up are perfect. I had them send me a black and white fax of the tag for the 68-72. The tag color and font look great. The problem is that the verbiage is incorrect. The original labels said "FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY". the repro says "GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE SAFETY". The tag on the 68-72 do not have any info other than build date and VIN. The 73 and later has teh GVW and other info.

Regarding the info to add. GM only used IBM typewriters. I am still trying to confirm which typwriter they used to add info to the decals.

I will pass it on once I find out. I suspect there are some professional restorers out there who know. I am hoping one will come forward.
