I have a keyhole that my door key fits in on the front driver side quarter panel. I can't see that its hooked to anything.
Has anyone ever seen something like this and if so whats it for?
Thanks
David

The anti-theft alarm. Moved in 74 from the rear panel to the LF fender and was optional, I believe. It may well have been disconnected by a PO if it quit working.

The alarm was a standard feature in '74. On the backside of the key-switch will be two terminals(one straight, one "L" shapped), with two wires attached, that complete the circuit("arm") for the alarm.
When armed(and working properly), there is a separate horn that beeps on/off when either of the doors, or the hood is opened. The horn is located on the driver side, rear, attached to the rear wheelwell on the inside. If you look up under the car back there, it is above the muffler area.
The relay and flasher for the alarm are under the passenger side rear storage box/tray.

I have a 77 and it has the keyway in the left front fender. I understand that it was moved to the door lock in 78. the 78 still had the alarm system, but it was activated by the drivers door lock instead of the keyway in the front fender. Mine is unhooked. I am going to fix it, but I am being lazy about it right now. I did get the new keyway and installed it, just haven't hooked it up.

The very early '77 cars did still have the switch in the fender. It was moved shortly after production started.
The alarm was made standard when they did away with the fiber-optic light monitoring system for the '72 model year.
