I'm getting ready to install an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake on my '77. I know for a fact that it won't fit under a stock Corvette hood (per Edelbrock). Does anyone know if the height of an L-82 hood is taller than a stock hood, or are they all the same height? |headscratch|

I don't know if the hoods are different, but you will not get that intake in even with the L-82 hood. I have an L-82 and was looking at that intake manifold for my car and it would not fit, if your using the original air cleaner. You will have to go to an aftermarket air cleaner or to a big block hood to make it fit.

CARB PAD HEIGHTS

Performer EPS - 4.27"
Performer RPM - 4.725"
Torker 2 - 4.08"

The RPM AIR GAP is an excellent manifold for your car and you will see nice gains all through your rpm range.

Trevor,
Thanks alot man. That info definitely helps. I'm planning on going with a K&N filter, and that may be even slightly higher than the stock air cleaner because I plan on going with either the 14" x 4 1/2" or the 14" x 5 1/2". I don't even have my original air cleaner. Well, I do but it's somewhere in storage. Haven't used it for years. Been using an open, free flow type like the K&N, only not nearly as tall. Now I know for sure that I'll need the bigger hood. The L-88 hood's nice, but I really like the twin turbo hood. By the way, what intake did you decide to go with after all, and how's the performance?
Marc.

I have a 77 L-82 and this combination did not fit under my hood. I bought an aftermarket hood that is shaped just like the factory hood, but about 2" taller. I now have about 3/4" room. |saluteflag|

I was looking for another manifold because I have a torker 2 and find that I would like more low end torque. The gentleman that I bought the car off of had put in the intake and a lumpy cam. The power slams me into the seat at 3000 rpm but below that I would say that it is adequate but not snappy. There was also a Holley 780 vacuum secondary carb which was way too big. If your motor will not see over 6000 rpm, a 600cfm will work well.
My plan to avoid the hood clearance issues is to build a shaker hood intake out of a 14" aircleaner. I don't know yet if it will be a straight shaker or whether I will try to do a ram-air/shaker combo. Trans Am shaker maybe?
This may be an option for you too, as hoods are relatively inexpensive and you can have a custom look. |thumb|

The 73-74 hoods were the same for small block or big block. No help there. Joe
