Does anyone know how tighten the door mirror. The part that is fasten to the door is tight but the top piece is very loose. I took the inner door panel off but could not tell how to tighten that part of the mirror. Also is there a special tool that is needed once I figure it out

Thanks Tom

Boy, I just had my driver side off.... I can only guess, that it's beyond repair. Sorry this is of not much help. Mine's possibly different anyway (It's power) but I didn't see anything that is 'tightenable'.

I have the same problem on my driver side mirror on my 79. The mount to the car is tight but the mirror body to the mount is lose. Its really annoying when going down the highway with it shaking.

My 69 is loose also, but it has a screw that holds it on, but no matter how much I tighten it, the mirror still wabbles. Same as the rest of you, the mount on the door is tight. I'm assuming the hole is worn beyond repair.

I've heard of this happening, one fellow told me the screw that holds the mirror to the mount was "bottoming out" before the mirror was tight. He ground the screw a little shorter and took care of the problem. Suggest trying it with a "generic" screw first?

Do you have to remove the glass to take off the sport mirrors ('78)? I removed the door panels and the screws are under the glass...

If you run the window up all of the way you can get to the mirror mount. Not easy but possible.

Been Der - Done Dat |thumb|
The problem is this, The mirror is held on to the mirror post by a socket screw, the mirror post is what actually mounts on the door panel - My terms BTW - with two screws. If the Mirror post is siolid on the door and the glass is tight on the mirror body then the only thing left is the fit between the mirror body and the mirror post. Usual cause is the hole is worn larger than the screw body. Look at the mirror from the bottom, remove the socket screw, next |hammer| LIGHTLY |eek| Peen the body of the screw to flatten it |no-no| JUST A LITTLE, screw it back in and repeat until the mirror fits tight onto the mirror post. I'd love to replace my stock mirrors with sport mirrors if I could ever find some.
