I've seen posts on INSTALLING and REMOVING luggage racks, but I'm having a problem with REPLACING mine.
The problem I'm having is that the new rack purchased to replace the old rusted one doesn't "fit" - the holes don't line up! The 4 in the corner do, the but two below the gas lid are off a good 1/2" or so.
I am not sure where the rack was purchased from, the the place that did the restoration work said this was common in that the racks GM used were not always manufactured by GM.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Any suggestions other than filling existing holes and re-drilling new ones? (Right now the rack is on but only secured in the 4 corners)
(Unfortunately the shop threw out the old one so I can't get it re-chromed)

Hello Eric,
There were at least three manufacturers of the luggage rack. These were a dealer added item. Two of the manufacturers were identical, the third was off by some small amount.
As I recall, Ecklers or Corvette Central offered both. It was some time ago that I saw this, but you might check with them. The other solution is to fill the holes, paint, and redrill. A good bodyshop could probably do this for less than re-chroming the old rack.
