Hey guys,

I'm running for work, so I have to make this short.
When I started restoring my late model 77 I never did a "Body off". But I've noticed a lot of the body moun ths have been have eaten off by rust and heat. I got a poly-eurethane kit from pro-mothin, and a new body bold kit. THe original bolts are also eaten by rust. I seem to be having some issues getting the busings in, and I am way tooo far ont eh project to take the body off. Is there anyway to get the new poly busings in without having tot ake the body off and then proceed to drop the busings in? Or am I in for anoter 2 year project as I have to rip apart everything.

I'm late for work, but thanks guys,

Have a nice day/night,
-Louis

Louis, if you can get all of the mount bolts out, you're on your way!!
Once you have all of the body mount bolts out, you can lift one side of the body at a time, to remove/install the mounts. Get a 2x4, and set it up against the bottom edge of the body, under the door. Then jack up on the board carefully. The body will raise enough to change the mounts this way. Just be carefull, and work slowly. Sometimes the mounts will be stuck, and may require a small amount of "persuasion" with a prybar.

Be sure to make note of any shims on the original mounts, and the location. You will need to re-install the shims in the same place, or you'll have body alignment issues. Angry

I did this in less then 3 weeks. http://hometown.aol.com/bmclau5079/page5.html

You don't need to take the body off unless the rockers and frame mounts are rusted out. You need to be carefull when trying to lift the body enough to put the new mounts in and watch for things that will move up with it, the front and rear bumpers, the steering rag joint, and any wirering, etc…).

i have heard from a guy who has lifted the body about 4-5 inch so he was able to put new rubbers in ....... but as you mentioned.. rust has eaten away  the mounts and the bolts.. so i am afraid the rust damage might be too severe to just put new rubbers in... and some repair has to be done on the mounts . on my vette the mounts (3&4)  in the doorpillar  were badly eaten away . not just the mounts on the frame but the hole inside that doorpillar where the bushing goes through.

but incase yuo lift the body a 4-5 inch.. keep checking carefully nothing get  ripped off  .. some grounding wires etc etc

good luck

Thanks for the info guys.
My mechanic is restoring an '81 for a customer of his. He was telling me if I don't ahve the room, and the knowledge don't attempt it. He siad that if the shims are just lightly off it could later on down the road crack the body. So I'm going to find a local Corvette place taht would do it.
But thaks for the help guys,
