Vette(s): 1972 Targa Blue, T-Top, Saddle leather, 350 auto, numbers match, all original except '69 factory side exhaust. Previously owned: 1969 427, 390hp, 4sp, Riverside Gold coupe, factory side exhaust

The dream of painting my Corvette has finally come true.  The first week of November I took my Targa Blue coupe to Gordys Auto Body Shop in Randolph WI for a new paint job.  With the exception of some left front fender damage, the paint is (was) all original and showing signs of its age.  The bonding strip seams  are showing on all four fenders and across the back.   Also showing is almost forty years  of road rash.

I have created an album in Photobucket that includes some “before”  pics and pictures of the interior and engine compartment.  I hope to get pictures of progress along the way.  I may need some help getting Photobucket  posted.

I took it to Gordy because he specializes in Corvettes and has restored many of them.  I have included a few pictures of Gordys  59 Top Flight winner as well as two others he is working on.  I will not be going for NCRS or Bloomington Gold but I have a high level of confidence that Gordy will do the job right.

You're making me nervous. My 79 goes in for paint Dec. 11 and seeing your car all apart gives me the willies. I mean I know it has to be done but its hard to see your baby all in pieces. I know I'll be a wreak during the process but it'll be worth it in the end. Good luck on it and I hope it turns out just like you want it! Keep us posted!

Dean, This is definitely an exciting time. Your doing the right thing by taking it somewhere where it will get started and completed and back to you before you know it. It looks very familiar to me! I know how excited you are going to be to get it back. Its going to look great!!  I have a question about your sidepipes, are they original or are they the fiber glass covers. I was thinking about getting the fiberglass covers and putting pipes on mine but I was nt sure what they looked like. Are they a chrome or do they have to be painted.
Thanks
Rodney

Man, that should look nice when done.
Must be paint time. I just redid the front suspension on the Pace Car and on Saturday I'll be taking it up to the paint shop.

Hi Rod---
They are 69 OEM side pipes.  I put them on in 1975 so as you might expect the chrome is pitted and should be either replaced or rechromed. (BTW I replaced the pipes only in 1990.)  I have seen the fiber glass covers that can be painted but I don't like that look, even though they are considerably cheaper.  I have priced new chrome covers and they are extremely expensive, however it costs more to have them rechromed than new ones.  Seems like a shame to put the old covers on a freshly painted car.Confused

You are right, these are exciting times!!Wink

Thank you to all for positive comments.Thumbs Up
