The original soft top on my '68 has a date code of 1 (except it's upside down), then a 2, then a 7. What month, day and year does this translate to?
It's definitely original per the original owner. Has Vinylite and AS-6 markings also.

I checked a couple of references, and it is very confusing as to how the date is configured. One says three to four digits to signify month and year. The other says three or four digits also, but shows a picture that uses a letter for the month, and one digit for the year. I would guess that the "7" on yours signifies 1967. Not sure why 1 is upside down, but it and the 2 could mean December. Not likely Jan 2, or Feb. So December 1967 is my guess, but when was your car built???
Yep, makes sense that it's December 1967. I checked my block casting date over the weekend and it's L267, which translates to December 2, 1967. I think my assembly date is early January of '68. Not sure why the 1 on the top's date code was stamped upside down. Must have been an error.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi
Just keep this date code in mind.
If you ever replace the top canvas, the date can be stamped , costs a bit extra.
This is not considered falsifying any originality, I think. Contrary to a restamped block.
Happy new year. Gunther
