Vette(s): 1975 Corvette Stingray. Saddle brown, 350 v8 with a hotter cam shaft.
I need some advise about the paint color of my vette. I am kind of toying with the idea about going some other color that was offered that same year. The current paint is the original color, but not original paint. I just wanted to get some thoughts and advise about this. I was also wondering if since it was already repainted will a different color affect the value of the car any. One way or another I will have to get it repainted because the paint is chipping. To my knowledge it will be the third paint job.

Anytime you change anything from original, it will change the value of the car. Most of the time, it's worth less, but some things will increase value to a specfic person. If you are making a show car stick to the original. If it's for your pleasure and that color is what you want, it's the right thing to do. My 75 was red, and will be red again, but brighter than it was. Mine will be a driver. It's very rough, I bought it that way, and it will look and run great when I'm done, but not show quality. Local shows will like it.

My opinion only...
The "correct" color is the one you like the most... After all, it's your car..
I agree with the previous post as far as show cars, but he seems to have his priorities in line with mine as far as daily drivers and "local show cars"..
IT'S MY VETTE, AND THE COLOR IS MY CHOICE..
Mine's black and always was.... I'm just lucky enought to have found one in my favorite color. If it had been green, I'd have painted it black... I need to paint it next year, but it will remain black.

Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
I say go with your gut and get what you want. My car is Dark Brown. Now if I were to have bought it new I would have never chosen that color, but since I didn't get to choose......it is what it is
However, when I can affored it, I am going to re-paint her. I want my baby pearl white with white glitter/metal Flake. I know that a good paint job is very expensive and you should be happy with it since it's your money and your car!! Get what you want......you won't be disappointed

I agree paint it the color you want. Vary few c3's have the original paint and unless you have high collector car its not going to devalue it much if at all. I think the most important thing in changing the color is quality of the job and weather it compliments the interior and not contrast it ie (BLUE INTERIOR WITH RED PAINT). If you sell it down the road and someone wants to win Bloomington Gold will more than likly repaint it back to original anyway. Mine was powder blue when I bought it which I think was one of the worst colors for a Vette. It's in the shop in about fifty thousand pieces and looks like a parts car (thats a hard thing to see)getting painted indgo blue met. It should be a huge improvment.

Vette(s): I own an 88 maroon coupe and a 68 silver coupe undergoing restoration.
I would suggest chosing a color from atleast the same era.Maybe with in two years one way or another.Just my two cents.

Sorry it took me so long to get back on. Thanks for all the imput. The car as is right now is not very original or stock anyway, but i am leaning tword keeping the original color. At least something will be simiorininal on car!LOL!.
Some friends of mine wanted me to change it and I wanted to get some vette owners point of view. If anyone is interested in seeing my vette just go to www.81x.com/fast_vette75/Cars . Thanks again.

My Vette could use a paint job too. It's not the original paint, but the color is close. The only places that are bad are the front and rear bumpers (they're slightly spidered). Other than that, the paint is pretty glossy.
I mentioned to another Vette owner that I wanted to paint it, and he replied with this:
"Did you buy it to drive...?" (which I responed Yes), "...Then don't paint it, you'll never want to drive it."
Words of Wisdom to think about depending on your driving habits verses the amount of work required to repaint.

I bought mine with no paint on anything but the t-tops. Yep, going to paint it. It sure looks funny now. (That's if I could see it under the snow).
