Since I was just scolded on the other thread , I thought I would start the OFFICIAL Paint site for my 79 vette. Satuday the 11th it will make its trek to Lew's Corvette body in Baltimore, MD. I talked to a bunch of places about it but decided on Lew's after seeing his work and talking with him. I really liked his attitude and he seems like the type that won't let a car go until its right. Although it remains to be seen how it turns out, at least I have a good feeling about it. Of course it will be repainted the original Frost Blue (otherwise I wouldn't hear the end of it!). I'll update everyone as it goes along, even though I'll be a nervous wreak! Wish me luck!

Barry, I know that nervous feeling you talk about. Looking back at how I had mine done if I were to do it over again it would just go somewhere and get everything done at one place like you have decided to do. Yours will look great when finished and you will be so proud to show it off next spring. What other upgrades do you have planned for this winter. Also how long will they have your car to repaint?
Sit back and enjoy this experience. It will be well worth it when its done!

[/QUOTE] Rodney, as for how long it takes, I haven't asked yet. I really don't care as long as I have it back for spring. As for other upgrades, the only thing I have planned is to put the Ipod adaptor on my Custom Autosound Radio. I don't know how much I'll have left after this is over. Painting is expensive!

do you have any idea what your cost is going to be. I figured to do the body work and paint would be around 4500 - 5500, but ended up around 9500. Yes painting is expensive.

Rodney, the whole thing is supposed to be around six grand. Everyone else I talked to was around ten grand. I think he's giving me a break because I was sent to him by a friend. Paul, yes it will be basecoat/clearcoat. Lew won't do anything else. He says its the best and longest lasting, just like you had said.

My 68 was Soda Blasted, body work and repainted in Texas. Was told the cost would be $8,000 but ended up $10,000. I was thinking I could get a great job in a small town at a lower cost(because of overhead) then the big shops in The Dallas area. I don't think I got any better deal now that I paid that much. However it looks great, but the body shop took too many shortcuts in putting things back together.
STUPID WEATHER!!!!! We got "snow flurries" today which translated to an inch of snow which turned to ice! Took me TWO HOURS to go the 4 miles from work to my house! Now, if it doesn't clear off early tomorrow, I can't get the car to the shop. Why me? Why couldn't it wait until tomorrow? Dang blast it!

Good luck with yours Barry,At the last minute I got some bad news on the guy who was going to do mine(two to many bad comments). So I'm looking around again for a shop.I was down by where you are going to get yours done and was going to stop in,but wife had a drop in doctor appointment so I had to rush home.I be down that way agian next week ,I may try to stop in.
