I've heard a lot of positives about POR-15. Haven't heard anything negative on it yet.

Try the POR on a small area. If you're looking for a factory correct finish, it may not do what you want. I used an etching primer on the bare areas, followed that with a urethane primer and topcoated with a semi gloss black urethane. It might be a bit of overkill, but it costs a lot of money to do a body off and a detailed frame really looks nice.
If everything is ready and clean, you can do a "wet on wet" paint job on the frame. Just let the previous coats tack off before applying the following coats.

Vette(s): 1971 T-top. I just had car shipped from my parents house in florida where it has sat for over 12 years..It is going to be a long project!
I recently beadblasted A-arms, did not prime after just put on por 15..a month or so later while cleaning engine bay it came right off of arms. However, on parts of frame around fuel tank that were rusted I painted directly on rust and weeks later that would not come off even with wire brush...so I guess you must have some rust on area for it to activate..i should of read all of directions first!
Por-15 is bullet proof and lasts forever. Used it on my 68 GTO Conv. and now on the minor rust on my 70 Roadster.
They now make a tye primer that adheres to Por-15. After priming you can use any paint as a finish coat. You will absolutely need to use the metal prep from Por-15 for the paint to stick to bare metal.
The best if you take your time and follow their instructions.
Good Luck. Hope to see some pics!

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
I was looking through some parts catalog and found some info you might be interested in regarding POR-15. They do have a metal etching primer or liquid prep for raw metal. It will etch the metal so the POR-15 will bond to the metal. Otherwise I think you can just apply it over the rust.
They have a POR-15 call Chassis Black. it is a gloss black. If you want a semi gloss then you may want to choose another product or check their website as they are starting to offer different colors.
Also they sell a reducer/clean up chemical for POR-15. This can be used to dilute the POR-15 for use in a spray gun. Might be an option since you would be doing a whole chassis. You might want to see if they have a por in Deglosser if you don't want it to be gloss. I know there is similar products for standard paint.

Also another suggestion that I am starting to see used in the market is. Rhino Lining or the Bed Spray on protector.
I hear it works great because not only does it lock out moisture, but it won't chip, crack, peel, plus since it is kind of a rubberized material it helps dampen noise and vibration.
Word of warning is several things. First this stuff is nearly impossible to remove after it is applied. Although I here they have a remover for it and you can grind off the material if need be for small repairs or if you need to do things to the frame. This is something that you can have sprayed on, rolled on or put on with a brush. I would make D$%n sure you put plugs in any thread holes. I don't think you would want that material to get in there. I've also been told that running a greased bolt through the threads will keep the stuff from sticking.
Just an Ideal
