Hey Guys I just stripped down my 73 and I want to paint it the pewter color from 2002 gm year.

My question is will it hurt the resale if any and how much ?

The original color was metalic silverand the NOM

The car is far from perfect and I am doing a partial restore eventhough it will be off the frame.

I intend to keep this car about two years so I am concerned about resale.

I just bought the car about a month ago and it had checked paint all over, it was also painted white twice.

Thanks for your help and any tips

How original is the rest of the car? Does it still have the original engine and tranny? If not, changing the color won't matter when it comes to potential value. Do you plan on making other non-stock changes? If the car is complete and original, it would be better to keep the same color since you plan on reselling it.

It still comes down to your car...your money.

If the car is going to be close to or show quality, you want to stick with the original paint. It will make a difference.
Going for max resale dollar, on not quite a show car, you may want to stick with original paint color. It might make a difference, depending on who your customer is. Sometimes a different color may add to the value if the buyer likes it.
If the car is just going to be a very nice but not show or near show quality, make it look the way you want. A good looking car will bring a good buck, original paint or not.

Mine is going to end up a nice looking driver. It will not be the original color. But it's mine, and it's not going anywhere without me.

Do what makes you happy. It's your car.

I totally agree with Ken, it's your car do what you wany!. Another point to consider is how rare is the car? is it an L-48, L82? big block? If it's low on the scale and been around the block, then in my opinion, you're allowed to do what you want. If what you do to the car is tasteful and it looks good, resale won't be a problem. 'vettes have always been modified.
Case in point; I bought a '73 years ago that was flared, still had the original engine, had a full history on the car. The motor had been seriously worked and had a "spec" paint code. I read that 3 of these cars had been painted black for a dealer in Iowa. Mine was traced back to that dealer. I kept the flares on it, repainted it and put hooker side pipes on it and the big tires. Everybody loved the car and I got a fair price out of it.
Just make yourself happy with it, these toys are not a gold mine, they are fun to play with. |cheers|

Those real '70's colors like "Grabber Green", "Plum Crazy", "Avocado" or "Harvest Gold" will all hurt your resale value. "Mary Kay Pink" is pretty much the kiss of death. |laugh|

Other than that, I think you'll be okay with the color you choose. GOOD paint work always helps the value. |thumb|

I always go thru the "original vs. modern" decision when my car needs work, and have always picked original. BUT, I am considering a 700R4 tranny and vortec heads as the next projects. I figure anything reversable can be non-original. Joe

Yes Ken, I do my own body and paint work. I am certified ASE Auto, Truck, Paint and Body.

My 75 has a black interior and was red. It's going to be a brighter red, probably Torch Red. I'm considering a charcoal or grey stripe down the center and across the back. Not sure yet.
