I can't believe you got the shields for 50 bucks!! That was one of the few things needed under the hood..and yes there is a V8 corvair in Red Lion..I think he lives on Franklin street..he sits on his front porch all day and stares at it..I think he is waiting for it to explode!! and one of these project cars has to be done soon!!! Yes there is a bunch of buzz bombs there on Wednseday..still fun to sit outside! Good luck on the color..who is doing the paint job anyhow--I forgot to ask--I am in need of one of those--!!!

My first parade at Carlisle 2010
Corvair V-8, wowsers.... I once bought a fuse box at a gas station; paid the gut $20 and he actually sent it. On the color; if it's for you, paint it whatever you like; if it's for resale go original.

Ebo, yea its a v8 corvair! water pump on the motor sits about 4" away from the driver / Passenger seat. He said one time the front hose blew and he had hot water all over him and the car. Didnt sound that good. He has a cover for the engine but doesnt use it. The strangest thing is that when I was about 15 years old I used to mow his parents yard for about 3 years. Small world!
Rich, The guy doing the body work for me is from Red Lion. Name is John Leanard. He was certified to do vettes when he worked for Apple Ford in since the RL Chevy doesnt have a body shop. He had some back issues so they didnt keep him. You should stop by and check out his work. He seems to be very good with fiberglass. We are doing the body work at my house in my garage out back. When its ready for paint one of his other friends is going to paint it at a shop that has a bake booth. The good thing is he is working on it full time. This way it should get done in the next 2 weeks. I said full time but he only put in 23 hours this week! Body guys schedules are weird!!
Ive taken a bunch of pics as we go forward on this project but still havent figured out how to post them yet. I'll get it right one of these days! Just hasnt been my priority yet!
As for the shielding I was just lucky, but he also gave me a catolog that came from Sterners before they tore the building down that has a parts listing of part numbers and pictures of assembly for vettes from 62 - 82. He wouldnt sell that but he left me have it to look thru. Hes in no hurry to get it back so if you want to look give me a shout. I know I can use it for a while.

No decision yet on the paint, I am leaning toward the Kandy Tangerine and not the ontario orange. I seem to change my thoughts daily! Toughest decision I have ever made! As for the prep work on the body, we finished the front end and put it into primer last night. Now hopefully this week we can get the rear panels completed then finish with the doors and alignment. I really havent done much myself as I am no body man! The person doing the work for me is very picky and has done more then I was planning on. There are / were alot of things in the front wheel fender wells that I never even saw. And then behind the side louvers. He took care of all these areas. I know he keeps looking for other things as I am paying him by the hour and the more he finds the more he makes. I told him we arent going over a 100 hours for repairs. but where do you cut off? So far in the 2 weeks he has worked for me he has a total of 56 hours. The back end should go much faster as it doesnt have near the amount of issues as the front. But when I had the windshield removed there is probably a couple more hours of work to clean up and repair that area. Need some welding in the top support. The side posts are in very good shape. Ive been taking pics during this entire process and someday I will figure out how to post them.
As for the soda blasting of the parts to repaint and clean up, the blaster that I got from eastwood didnt work very well. I have made some changes to the design and I think I am good to go now. I hope to start cleaning parts this week.

Well the back end has issues as well. At some time during the cars life it had some work done on the back. The rear panel at the license plate / exhaust tips that is to separate has been glass together with the rear panel on the sides just above the exhaust tips. Not a big deal but why would they do that. Good thing is it can be repaired and put back the way it should be. The body man seems to love finding these issues! More money out of my pocket and into his! The rear quarters need some work around the seams. Oh yea, and I got that wonderful call today from him to bring my camera out to take a picture of the hood. Somehow Bubba must have done some body work there before and just used regular body filler so we had to cut it out and rematt it because it was a hole about 3" long and 1" wide straight thru! I gave up on the 100 hours I wanted to keep at and now I am hoping 150. The good thing is that last night he had the paint supplier stop in for a while and he brought some paint with him that when sprayed today I really liked. I am giving up on the factory paint! Just doesnt have the pop I am hoping to find. Welded the windshield support today and hoping to get some time this weekend to blast some parts. Ive been keeping tabs on the cost of this project but I tell myself I'm not totaling them till its done. Maybe not then either.
To be honest I dont think I did a good job on my homework before I bought this car. Not because I didnt expect to spend money but I am to picky and I havent figured out where to stop and except some older parts. Oh well, at least the wife isnt complaining yet! MORE TO COME!

IT was an easy choice for me. My car was a medium red. I chose to paint it Torch Red and I love it. Of course it's far from original. My wife wanted me to paint it Teal.
TEAL??? That's a minivan color (we had one) NOT a Vette color. Silly woman. Aww I still love her.
UPDATE:
we are now just completing week 8 of what I originally thought would be a 100 hour job to restore the body and paint. As stated before the body guy doesnt know what a 40 hour week is. The good news is that it is schedule to be in the paint booth next Saturday. We plan on spraying all the jambs and under hood and top deck on tuesday. I must say this has been a real eye opening experience. As i said before I thought 100 hours but we are now at 200 hours with a few to go. I let him do more than I originally planned. we took out all latches and hinges and he cleaned and sprayed them. I had to have him rebuild the bumper crossmember because I couldnt find one. Once the jambs are painted the doors, hood and deck go back on the car and it gets its final block sanding. I sure hope it turns out to be a straight no wavey body. Once its painted then the fun begins as I need to figure out how everything goes back on plus complete the interior. The bad part is that because of all the extra time it took to get to this point I am not sure I can do a motor at this time. May have to wait for next year. Christmas is coming and maybe Santa can help with an engine!
Best part is that I have the C3VR group to get any information needed to get to completion.
Thanks guys and gals for all your help!

Well Rod, I'm sittin here looking at snow flakes in the air, the depression is already setting in, I've read my latest Vette mag front front to back and then back to front at least 6 times. I see your refresh on the paint job and it sounds like the extra dough will be a distant memory once the paint is layed down. As its always stated the paint job is all in the prep work, money well spent bud.
I have to say that with all the help from the site you really have only one way to show gratatude....
I went back and looked at every post on this thread and something very very important is missing...
THERE IS NOT ONE DANG PICTURE OF ANYTHING! Un acceptable
