I believe the engine bay and suspnsion should be semi gloss, but keep in mind, not all of the suspension should be painted if you are interested in keeping it original. If not, then paint away!

Most of the stuff under the hood should be a satin black. The brake booster was gloss black. Suspension components had different degrees of gloss/flat to them. Even the upper and lower control arms were painted differently.
If you're trying to stay original, then I would go satin black on most of the underhood/firewall area, and maybe some semi-gloss on the suspension components...

When I detailed the chassis on the '74, I used about 5 different shades of black for different stuff. It turned out really well. Problem is, I can't remember what got painted with what!

Correct.  Semi-flat black.  Very good pics included in the two books by M. F. Dobbins.  Lots of underhood shots showing original engines and finishes.

He also has a book for the 68-72 models.
