I am getting ready to paint a 69 coupe (with the recessed back window).
This is my first paint job and am painting in my garage. Draft is as much downdraft as I can get. If anyone has any suggestions on the best way to most effectively get the paint into the recessed area and going around the car in general, I would appreciate them. The back of the car is nearest the ventilation.

Just make sure to keep the paint gun as even as distance from the body as possible, and keep it at a right angle. Easier said than done. Remember when coating, the edge closer will get a thicker application, so account for that when spraying the rough sections.
Don't mix the paint to dry too quickly, or you will get dry spots by the time you get all the way around the car.
If you are going to wet sand and buff, minor dry spot are not a big problem as long as there is enough paint on the car.

Leaving out any discussion on prep up to the point of painting, I elected to remove the hood and T-tops (and sport mirrors) for off the car painting. My car is a urethane bumper type (76) so had to tape all of this off and paint separately with a flex agent mixed into the paint (you won't have this issue on a 69). With Lots of masking and tape (cabin, engine bay, wheel wells, bumpers, etc.) and the car raised about 24 inches to make it easier to paint the lower parts of the car, I started at the right passenger door, right half of roof beam, right quarter, rear deck, left quarter, left half of roof beam, left door, left fender, front clip, and right fender (a circular approach around the car) and repeated this for 3 coats total. You are right in that the recessed area behind the rear window is difficult. I tried to keep the gun even, but ended up with one run in this area and had to sand out and repaint. I used a small touch up gun to do this the second time (much easier to manuver under the overhand and around the recess). I strongly advise removing the hood as it is much easer to paint this off the car and make sure you are getting good even coats.
I hope this is the info you are looking for (my second paint job, but came out much better than the first despite some issues I would change the third time around). Whatever paint you use (particularly with Urethane) make sure you have good protection (suit and breathing) - modern paints are nasty.
