I am having my 76 painted and the guy has had the car since St. Paddy's Day. I do know the car should be stripped and the primer used is a special type today for fiberglass, something that was not around 25 years ago. The primer is a base that will move with the fiberglass and prevent spidering in the top coats of paint. As soon as I get my Vette back I will post a pic. and I will take it to the cruise nights.

Sounds great!! Can't wait to see pics!
I would be interested in knowing more about this primer base..since I will be looking at a premium paint job sometime next year.

Heck yes, keep us posted. I am having mine painted either this fall or in the spring. My brother in law has a body shop and will be doing the painting. I know he would appreciate anything new that deals with fiberglass as he does a lot of 'glass work. He currently uses a very expensive base primer and if the product is the same or cheaper I will let him experiment on mine.

Should I get the names of the stuff that they used on Destiny? I'll be there over the next few weeks still, so it's no problem if you all want me to find out and post it here, or I can email it to whoever wants the info that way you'd have it on your own system at home/work. Let me know.

That'd be great. I know that information would be useful to me, just post it up here so you don't have to go through the hassle of letting all the vette people know. I know there are quite a few primers used on boats that we could put on our cars, but I've heard that they don't really serve the purpose on cars... I have yet to figure out why though?

For my vette i will probably take boat's product, because black color exist and boats are in fibreglass so painting is maybe better for a vette...
Ps: I start to prepare my vette in 1 or 2 mounth.
Ps2: my big problem are crancks on my bumpers

Youll have to strip those bumpers to see if its just the paint or the actual bumper that is cracked then you can go from there as to what you need to do....
Its a pain to do but dont throw them out untill you know for sure they are good or bad as I know it cost a lot to ship to you guys!
I live in japan with a vette for 3 years
shipping gets you every time!

Just curious, What could I expect to pay for a complete paint job including the stripping, prepping, and repainting. I'm in no hurry but I can see a paint job looming. My car still looks great but the resin cracks are really starting to show on all of the top surfaces.

I've been calling around the rochester area and the better paint jobs seem to start at 3000.00. someone told me I could flatbed my vette down to florida and get a good paint job for around 1500.00.....how about it gary is there any truth do that

I was at a show this weekend and a custom car builder that does custom fiberglass body kits was telling me about a product that he uses on fiberglass and says its the way to go. Its a fiberglass ground to a powder and then you mix resin into it creating a paste sorta like bondo. Then you just spread it on. He says it dries extremely hard, fills and bridges holes with ease and is great for fixing spider web cracking on corvettes. Only down fall he said is if you don't apply it correctly and get a nice even layer its a pain in the butt to block down.
